Hackers Preying on World Bank
Hackers Preying on World Bank
A recent report from Fox news revealed that the World Bank has been the consistent target of cyber attackers last year, accounting six attacks. The bank was breached two times by which perpetrators are believed to be from China. The IP addresses traced spread a massive spyware infection. Last July, at least five World Bank servers were attacked and subsequent to that, an email was also sent to the bank suggesting that 4500 passwords be altered to protect from imminent attacks.
The World Bank maintains the falsity of the report. In an official statement, the bank said, "The Fox News story is wrong and is riddled with falsehoods and errors. The story cites misinformation from unattributed sources and leaked emails that are taken out of context.
The bank also stated, "Like other public and private institutions, the World Bank has repeatedly experienced hacking attacks on its computer systems and is constantly updating its security to defeat these. But at no point has a hacking attack accessed sensitive information in the World Bank's Treasury, procurement, anti-corruption or human resources departments."
