Free Detection Tool for Conficker Released

Researchers have released a free detection service designed for Conficker which enables IT departments to remotely scan their network for possible Conficker attack.  The tool distinguishes compuer systems infected by the fast-growing worm.  It was built by Honeynet Project, a non-profit research group, with the assistance of security research Dan Kaminsky.

Conficker starter out by exploiting a Windows Server Service flaw.  It operates through sending Remote ProcedureCall.  It releases its own patch, thus hindering other malware to attack the system it has infected.

The detection tool was built to identify machines that were patched by Microsoft and those that were supposedly "fixed" by the brains behind Conficker.
