First Cyber Security Strategy in the UK Launched
The launching of UK's first national strategy for cyber security was recently announced by prime minister Gordon Brown. The scheme is designed to combat cyber crime and create opportunities presented by the Digital Brain report. With the project, the government aims to battle the threats brought by a fast developing technology. The UK will be putting up a national cyber security office who will administer strategies that would protect government departments and businesses from threats and attacks. The new office will also get a considerable financial support to carry out its role adequately.
“Just as in the 19th century we had to secure the seas for our national safety and prosperity, and in the 20th century we had to secure the air, in the 21st century we also have to secure our position in cyber space in order to give people and businesses the confidence the need to operate safely there," Gordon Brown said.
Gordon also pointed how the strategy would help UK collaborate with ther countries in building a cyber security legal framework. An ethics advisory group will then be created to guarantee that government policies will not violate privacy and freedom of internet use.
