FBI Sees Boost in Cybercrimes
According to FBI's cyber division head, the agency has seen a considerable rise in computer spying and identity theft cases last year. This is caused by the convenience of preying on millions of internet users at a minimal effort. Stealing personal information has become too easy for crooks that the number of such cases has reached sky high. The FBI said there were about 24 countries who have shown assertive interest in infiltrating networks of US companies and government agencies, though the agency did not specify which countries. US federal agents are taking hard-hitting efforts to combat computer crimes. They have established partnerships with foreign counterparts where a swelling number of computer attacks is seen.
FBI Assistant Director Shawn Henry said, Over the past year the malicious activity has become much more prevalent. The threat continues to increase."
The Internet Crime Complaint Center, which is operated by the FBI, has accounted over one million complaints since its launch in 2000. The number of complaints are now close to 18,000 to 20,000 per month which is quite alarming.
