Ex-Intel Engineer Pilfers Trade Secrets

An engineer previously working in Intel has been indicted by the federal prosecutors in Massachussetts this week for stealing the company's trade secrets amounting to $1 billion  while he was working for its major competitor, AMD.

Biswamohan Pani was alleged to have downloaed over a dozen classified documents from Intel's computer system in California. During which time, Pani was already resigned from the company. The heist lasted for four days, allowing the suspect to get as much data, including details about methods for designing microprocessors, using his old access to Intel.

Pani's resignation came as a blow to Intel as the company thought he was only investigating a hedge fund job he was eyeing on. Without Intel's knowlege, he was already working at AMD, getting two payrolls from both companies. AMD claims it had no knowledge of Pani's move and did not profit from the stolen information.

The suspect maintains he did not intend to use the data against his former employer and only planned to give the information to his wife who was also working for Intel. Pani's lawyer did not release any official comment but expressed his client refutes the charges and plans to take the case to trial.
