According to EU, there are a number of intenet firms abusing personal information of their consumers.  Meglena Kuneva, Consumer Affairs Commissioner,  warns that EU will intercede and employ tougher actions on how companies gather personal data, examined, and searched by search engines as well as service providers.

EU is currently urging internet business organizations to implement better security standards to promote privacy among consumers. Kuneva said, "The current situation with regard to privacy, profiling and targeting is not satisfactory. Basic consumer rights in terms of transparency, control and risk are being violated and this cannot continue."

Major IT companies like Google, Yahoo, and Microsoft claim they have employed more constricted safety measurements to protect their costumer's data. All three firms, resorted to trimming down the time by which personal data from surfing habits are stored. They also added that they have given their customers the option to reject internet ads.
