Defense Department Looking to Hire Hackers
The defense deparment sent U.S. Air Force's 318th Information Operations Group commander Col. Michael Convertino, to speak at the Black Hat about hiring some people from the hacking community.The demand for hackers in the government has grown considerably. Hackers have massive knowledge that can save the government from potential cyber attacks.
U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) director of futures exploration Jim Christy said, "The character of Defcon has changed over the years. Ninety-five percent of the people here are good guys."
Former US CIO Linton Wells also noted that the government perspective of the hacker crowd has changed since the 9/11 attack.
"The federal government has engaged with a lot of people they wouldn't have even talked to before 9/11," Wells said.
Convertino noted that the Air Force is focusing on cybersecurity recruiting, seeking the expertise of computer security geniuses.
