Counterterrorist Data Mining Requires Privacy Protection
Counterterrorist Data Mining Requires Privacy Protection
The National Research Council or NRC suggests that the U.S government reconsiders its move against counterterrorism amidst the privacy risks brought by unverified data mining and behavioral surveillance. The report, entitled "Protecting Individual Privacy In The Struggle Against Terrorists", is a collection of discussions and research done within three years. It was conducted to replenish the government with a restructured plan to enhance its counteterrorism programs. The framework seeks to acknowledge privacy issues that have plagued previous counterterrorist data mining schemes.
In addition, the report adresses the value of various technologies in promoting security within government programs. However, it recommended the legit operation of counterterrorism platforms with restricted employment of technology.
The NRC is slated to deliberate its findings at the National Academy of Sciences in Washington, D.C. today.
