Companies Keep Wi-Fi Networks Unprotected

According to a latest study from Motorola, majority of business organizations do not consider securing their wi-fi network.  Around 64 percent of companies are reported to be brushing off security measures when it comes to their  wireless local area network.

The study further revealed that only 47 percent of firms are protecting their wi-fi network via WEP or Wired Equivalent Privacy and WPA or Wi-Fi Protected Access. This is inspite of various threats lurking across wired and wireless local area networks. There were also less than 30 percent of companies who use any type of wireless intrusion prevention system.

Motorola's research showed that over 50 percent of firms shell out two ours per week looking for "rogue" access points, in lieu of finding ways to keep their networks encrypted.

Motorola's chief technologist  said,  "It is surprising that companies today are not using wireless encryption standards such asWi-Fi Protected Access 2 (WPA2)."

Moreover, Sinha pointed that having employees who constantly    hop from one place to another using other networks or hotspots may pose a great security risk to companies.
