Researchers Craig Schmugar and Anthony Bettini revealed that classic cyber crimes have re-emerged as web 2.0 services continue to rise. They further noted latest occurrences where criminals get to manipulate huge companies to earn a considerable amount of cash.

 

Criminals could also benefit from web 2.0 through spreading phishing scams. They have learned how to use personalized ‘spear phishing’ as users continue to post personal information online.

 

"You start open sourcing your life and it basically is a hunting ground for phishing attacks," Bettini stated.

 

Application flaws have also lead to financial manipulation. As security experts earn money from unveiling unknown or zero-day flaws, the possibility of criminals discovering the flaws become higher.
