Accountant Fired for Sending Confrontional Emails

A accountant from New Zealand, Vicki Walker, has claimed damages against her employer ProCare Health for unjustly booting her from her job.


Walker used to work as a financial controller in the company and was axed for circulating offensive emails. The content was written in block capitals bold typeface and red text.



"To say that [email] is confrontational is ridiculous. I have spent thousands defending myself and there are so many issues that are unresolved that I want to take them up on," Walker claimed.



The court awarded Walker with NZ$17,000 (£7,155) in damages and loss of earnings. However, Walker still plans to further her legal battle, seeking a tougher verdict from the court.



Initially, the court favored Walker because ProCare Health had policy on email usage, which made it unrealistic for the firm to sack its employees for writing rude emails.
