800 MIllion Pounds of Fake Goods Plague Online Shopping Sites
Based on a research conducted by Price MIniser, an online auction site, revealed how shopping sites on the internet are flooded with bogus goods. The research disclosed that around 800 pounds of counterfeit products such as designer clothes and computer software are being sold in sites like eBay, among others.Buyers who want to purchase cheaper signature brands can find them in online selling sites, a fairly easy target of fraudsters. A lot of fake commodities are sold on the internet, with buyers not even distinguishing the fake from the original.
Computer softwares are also widely pirated and sold on the web. Among the most common are Apple, Microsoft, and Nokia installers. These fake goods are reported to be at a rapid growth, increasing by 50 percent every year.
The research further showed that a 45 percent boost in sites offering counterfeit materials has been seen since 2007. Price Minister claims it had blocked approximately 3,000 accounts from its website.
