IT Director Pleads Guilty to Charges Linked to Illegal Access of Computer Network
A former IT director, Danielle Duann, pleaded guilty over illicitly accessing the computer network of LifeGift Organ Donation Center in Houston and removing organ donation database records, invoice files, and database and accounting software.Duann was indicted in June 2008 for breaching and crippling an encrypted computer. LifeGift terminated her in November 2005, repealing all her administrative rights and access to the firm’s computer network. Following her termination, Duann remotely accessed LifeGift’s network multiple times at her home. She deleted various database files and software applications that had something to do with LifeGifts organ and tissue recovery operations.
Duann is slated for sentencing on July 28. Once convicted, she will be serving 10 years jail time and will be paying a fine of up to $250,000.
