A report from Fortinet revealed Virut variant as the most active among malwares identified last month. According to security researcher Derek Manky, said the Virut was recognized because of the number of attacks it perpetrated. It has the ability to reproduce via hybrid kinds of worms .

The Virut virus distributes itself through P2P file sharing applications IRC network, and over network shares.  Once a user installs such files infected with Virut, the vius will stay memory resident and will attempt to infect other launched files such as  .exe or .scr.

On the other hand, the Storm Worm was accounted as one of top malware to hit the web. It was used in 62.6 per cent of all attacks reported.  This is a backdoor Trojan horse that attacks computers running in Microsoft operating systems. It has infected thousands of computer systems in Europe and the United States back in 2007.
