Quick Time Zero-Day Attack Code Circulated
A hacker has released an attack code that manipulates an unfixed flaw in QuickTime, a multimedia framework developed by Apple Inc.Quicktime is capable of handling various formats of digital video, media clips, sound, text, animation, music, and several types of interactive panoramic images. The media player is usually mauled for its slow performance in both encoding and decoding video when compared to other media players and encoders. The QuickTime implementation of H.264 is sometimes considered inferior in specification to competitive implementations like x264 and Nero Digital.
The exploit strikes a vulnerability plaguing the Quicktime "<? quicktime type= ?>" parameter, according to a Symantec Corp.'s DeepSight threat notification network researcher. The attack came following the release of a Quicktime update that patched nine other vulnerabilities.
