New Worm Threatens Social Networking Sites

A new worm is being spread throughout some social networking sites such as Facebook and Myspace. It is sent through messages that appear to be coming from the friends profiles. The worm is  disguised as a link  to download the latest version of Flash player. The user is asked to download the player after clicking a video clip. The worm is then circulated throughout the user's friends list.

Infected machines will act be like zombie PC's in the botnet. Kaspersky has warned that the botnets are most likely to be turned to other malicious purposes soon.

A computer worm is a self-replicating computer program. It uses a network to send copies of itself to other nodes (computer terminals on the network) and it may do so without any user intervention. Unlike a virus, it does not need to attach itself to an existing program. Worms almost always cause harm to the network, if only by consuming bandwidth, whereas viruses almost always corrupt or modify files on a targeted computer.
