Million Strains of Malware in 2009

PandaLabs reported that over 25 million new strains of malware that needed IT Support were created last year and according to it's IT security report the number of new versions identified has increased more than the 15 million identified throughout the company's 20-year history. More than 50 percent were banking Trojans followed by fake antivirus software known as scareware.

Scareware scams internet users into downloading fake security software. The IT company predicts that malware will increase this year and that "Windows 7 will surely attract the interest of hackers when it comes to designing new malware, and attacks on Mac will increase. While we are likely to witness more politically motivated attacks the report concludes that this will not be the year of the mobile phone virus."
