"Hijacked" Babies Used to Bait Spam Victims

"Hijacked" Babies Used to Bait Spam Victims

Spammers have gone too far  to widely spread their malicious content.  According to researchers SophosLabs researchers, spammers have commenced a social engineering campaign wherein the sender claims to have "hijacked" the recipient's baby.

The spam messages hold the subject line "We have hijacked your baby". The purported victim is asked to pay $50,000 and will be  prompted to launch an attachment which is claimed to be the kidnapped child's photo. This file, known as photo.zip, is actually a Trojan horse that is identified as Troj/Resex-Fam. This Trojan, if run, then downloads other malware from the Internet that will damage your computer.

Littlefish IT support recommends not to open messages with highly similar email attachments. Never entertain unsolicited emails. In case you have it sitting in your inbox, delete without even reading the content. It pays to be careful these days especially when cybercriminals are just around the corner waiting for their next prey.
