Firefox-Based Attack Affects IRC Users

IT Support is needed as hackers have discovered an IT security vulnerability which they exploited in order to damage Freenode and other networks, IT services providers of internet relay chat users. In order to do this, hackers have used a web link with a piece of javascript embedded into it which made users join IRC networks and fill channels with the same internet address and spam.

If people that use IRC follow the link through Firefox, they have their browsers spam the channels, problem that has been affecting Freenode network and others for almost a month. One of the hackers said that "huge numbers of users of the Freenode network ended up getting banned themselves because they would click the link and then they would join the network and flood the network." Efnet and OFTC, IRC networks, have done their best to stop the attacks and they were able to do so, but Freenode still has some problems.
