Conficker Still Lurking Around Due to Lack of Applied Security by Web Users
A report by IT security company ESET revealed that Conficker threat is still imminent, with users not taking security measures against possible attacks.ESET said web users are disregarding security despite the fact that Conficker could attack anytime. The firm further disclosed that massmailers like Netsky, Mydoom and Bagle are still on the loose regardless of the security updates being released.
ESET malware intelligence director David Harley said, “I would guess that right now, much of the continuing prominence of Conficker in the ratings is due to lots of machines, mainly home machines or botnetted business machines, that are never patched or properly protected by AV."
“This is often because the owner doesn't bother with all that, or maybe sometimes because of a longstanding infection that's blocking patches and updates and has never been noticed," Harley added.
ESET recommends that users install all the security updates needed for their system. The firm also suggested to disable Autorun and avoid launching unprotected shared folders.
