Botnets Blamed for Rise in Email Malware

It seems that IT connectivity users that surf the Internet and communicate through an email IT service, are getting bothered more and more every day by the unwanted spam. This IT security problem is starting to get out of hand because of the fact that it increases its volume as time goes by. In the first half of 2009 there were 600 million spam messages per day, but in the second half it reached three billion messages per day.

To blame for this huge number of spam messages are botnets, according to IT company M86 Security. Surprisingly, only five botnets were responsible for 78 per cent of the malicious spam received by Internet users in the second half of 2009. "The spamming botnets are constantly in flux, waxing and waning, morphing, becoming obsolete, being replaced, taken down, and upgraded. It is important to identify the major contributors to the volume of spam, so the industry can take action against them," the IT company said.
