IT Support was needed this week after Twitter discovered that its IT security was broken by hackers who were after users’ data. For this reason, the IT company decided some users of the micro-blogging IT service have to change their passwords. Del Harvey, director of Trust and Safety from Twitter wrote in a blog post that the hackers got in by using user names and passwords through third-party torrent sites created by them.
Because of the fact that most Internet users have the same usernames and passwords on different websites, hackers could break in easily. Harvey also said that “as part of our ongoing efforts to monitor our user base for odd activity, we noticed a sudden surge in followers for a couple of accounts in the last five days. Given the circumstances surrounding this, we felt it was best to push out a password reset to accounts that were following these suspicious users.”
