Tech Workers Render One Month Unpaid Overtime Every Year
Based on a recent survey, around 33 percent of IT workers extend their work hours amounting to over a month every year without getting paid. According to TUC, 33.8 percent of IT employees are compelled to render unpaid overtime, exceeding five hours and 48 minutes every week in 2008.This year, TUC is "applauding the spirit and dedication of employees who are helping to keep businesses afloat," due to the recent job cuts affecting thousands of employees. However, TUC maintains workers should not feel restrained to go beyond their shift and not being paid.
In addition, TUC reported people working in the IT industry do not think they are being manipulated to work without being compensated. Even workers in other industries are averaging seven hours and six minutes per week of unpaid overtime. However, workers providing IT support have seen a decrease in their monthly salary by 1.7 percent which is another blow to an already dwindling compensation.
