Standards Set To Ease IT Gender Inequality
The British Computing Society (BCS), e-skills UK and Intellect have collaborated to battle against gender imbalance in the IT industry. The three organizations have been gathering data pertaining to the equality between female and male IT employees starting last year. They aim to establish statistics as a "definitive evidence base for commentary".According to Intellect, the informatin gathered will be used to set a standard in utilizing the huge amount of incosistent facts and data withing the IT sector. The companies revealed a considerable amount of salary gap exists among IT employees based on their gender. Karen Price, e-skills UK chief executive, said that women are often perceived to be less capable in doing jobs concerning IT support.
"As an industry, we need to do much more to promote the wide range of roles and skills we need. In particular, the types of roles that require a blend of business, interpersonal and technical skills are often appealing to women, and this is a skill set in great demand in the UK," Price said.
