Research Features Scarcity of IT Skills
A recent study from City & Guilds revealed that UK companies waste 13 million work hours a week due to IT incompetency. The research also concluded that around 5.3 million employees take two and a half of their work time to resolve their problems concerning IT as well as other worker's IT issues.
According to Ken Gaines, IT product manager at City & Guilds, most businesses do not shell out for IT support budget and instead, let their staff patch any technical problems. The reason for such is to save operational costs, especially now that almost all industries are suffering from the worlwide economic turmoil. Another result of the study showed how employees lack IT skills training; thus resulting to missed deadlines. In addition, around 43 percent of workers from 19 to 21 years old fail to accomplish a task as scheduled due to IT ineptitude.
Gaines warned, "For the UK to remain globally competitive, workers at all levels need appropriate training to use current and emerging information technologies."
