Majority of IT Workers Looking for New Careers

According to a recent survey by The IT Job Board, nine out of ten IT workers are seeking for new professions this year. Among the 362 British employees surveyed, only 11 percent admitted they were happy with their current job.

In addition, around 36 percent attribbuted the lack of job openings to the weak economy. There were also 48 percent of those who are not looking for new jobs who claimed they were satisfied with their present career.

According to Alex Farell , The IT Job Board director, he was overwhelmed by the number of IT employees who are searching for another profession considering the massive influence of the recession to those who opt to stay on their current job.

Farell added, “It’s positive to see that the sector’s employees do not believe the economic downturn will have a major impact on career opportunities."

Furthermore, 50 percent of those who participated the survey believed that the recent economic crunch will negatively affect the IT sector. Of those who were thinking of shifting careers, 50 percent said they wanted to have better career opportunities, and 45 percent reasoned they wanted to earn more.

Almost 66 percent of IT workers planned to broaden their horizon and enhance their technical skills to provide quality IT support. Another 50 percent reckoned making a career change would help them develop their work/life balance.
