IT Pros Lack Ambition, Research Says
According to a research by recruitment consultancy Badenoch & Clark, IT professionals in the United Kingdom are evolving into less ardent individuals, who put their career on the bottom of their priority list. Bedenoch says this is attributed to the increasing work pressures brought by recession. The research revealed around 45 percent think providing IT support is becoming less and less appealing, putting off plans for career advanccement. Another 7 percent makes the most out of recession, and consider it as an instrument in opening doors for career progress.
Badenoch & Clark said the IT sector is “an industry distinctly lacking in ambition." Its associate director, Matt Gascoigne, also added, “The IT sector has until recently been relatively shielded from the downturn, but we’re beginning to see some signs that it’s starting to have an impact."
“IT professionals need to take more charge of their careers. Shifting full responsibility onto time-poor line managers will only stall careers further and cause engagement and motivation to falter," Gascoigne said further.
