Greenpeace Admires Apple's Green IT Promotion

Greenpeace has expressed admiration over Apple's effort to promote environmental technology. The organization applauds Apple's move to lessen toxic materials in its computers and other electronic devices.

In an official statement, Greenpeace noted, "While Apple, and other top electronic companies, still face many challenges on the road to truly green electronics, it can only be a good thing to see a top CEO and high profile a public figure as Steve Jobs devoting significant time to environmental concerns at Apple."

Apple is among many business organizations advocating on Green IT to save energy costs. In May 2007, its CEO Steve Jobs claimed Apple leads rivals like HP and Dell in implementing a greener technology. He also announced the company surpassed its goal last year to recycle 13 percent of the materials used in its products. In addition, Apple aims to reach 25 percent by 2010.

Apple presently offers free recycling for its music device, the iPod, as well as iPhone. Customers can also take advantage of free recycling  for old computers. Apple is now organizing a study on its total carbon footprint, and lead customers to a range of documents about  energy efficiency, material composition, packaging and greenhouse gas emissions for each product line.
