Airlines Set Their Eyes on IT Security

Based on a survey conducted by IT specialist firm SITA, around 75 percent of airlines are seriously monitoring IT security.  The survey showed that majority of airlines are keeping a large chunk of their budget to maintain IT security.

However, SITA's research also acknowledges that professionals providing IT support are facing numerous obstacles in attaining adherence to regulations in terms of secure transactions. The study further concluded that about 34 percent of respondents admitted their IT budget remains the same and another 25 percent said they saw an increase of one to five percent in their IT spending.  A higher nine percent mentioned their airline increased IT expenditures by six percent or more.

Moreover, 42 percent of the survey respondents joined the preparations for the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCIDSS). Cited barriers to achieving compliance include insufficient resources (54 percent), budget (49 percent), and lack of knowledge (47 percent).
