2012 Olympics Organizers Pick IT Chief
A former Co-operative Financial Services executive was named the chief information officer for the 2012 London Olymics. Organizers have chosen Gerry Pennel after a massive search for one of the most vied position in world sport.Pennel will be overseeing the games' telecommunications, business-technology services and the technology reinforced in the venue and results. He will be joining the London Organizing Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games in November, and will be reporting to chief executive Paul Deighton.
The new CIO joined CFS in January 2003 as Director of ICT Development and Delivery after holding senior positions with Barclay's Bank and PricewaterhouseCoopers. He was also the man behind the programme's success in developing, establishing and operating all technology support for the Manchester Commonwealth Games in 2002.
