It seems that Tor anonymiser software has recently experienced some IT security problems. Because of this security breach, users of the IT service need to upgrade to the latest version of the software. Problems were really serious as two out of seven directory authorities and a metrics data server were compromised during the hacker attack. So three servers were taken offline after the security attack.

Volunteers started giving solutions and used IT Support in order to have greater IT security of the systems and avoid this happening again. "It appears the attackers didn't realize what they broke into - just that they had found some servers with lots of bandwidth. The attackers set up some ssh keys and proceeded to use the three servers for launching other attacks," Dingledine says. There were other attacks targeting Tor software in the past but the latest problem wasn't as so critical.
