Spotify Brought Down by Hot Air
The IT company behind Spotify said that it had to use IT Support over the weekend because of the fact that not working air conditioning has brought the music streaming IT service down for several hours. A power outage made the service go down on Saturday at the data centre of the company in London. the problem was that the system overheated because of the fact that the auxiliary air conditioning didn't start. This happened after the servers’ backup power kicked in and made the IT company stay down for a few hours. Andres Sehr from Spotify said that “Heat is a major issue in large data centres and without this cooling unit the temperature rose very quickly and our servers shut down to protect themselves from over heating. Once we discovered the source of the problem we started work on bringing the servers back online, but because of the large number of servers and the complexity of the system it took a few hours to get everything up and running again."
