PayPal Adds PIN-By-Phone Authentication
eBay's PayPal unit and VeriSign said Monday that the two companies have extended their partnership to allow two-factor authentication via mobile phones.Users now have a choice: either use a token that they can keep in their wallet or purse, or sign up with PayPal to have the service text them a disposable six-digit PIN number.
The service, known as the PayPal SMS Security Key, will be available to customers in the U.S., Australia, Austria, Canada and Germany, the two companies said. Users will need to sign up at the PayPal Security Key Web site.
