Microsoft recently announced its plan to embark on cloud computing services. The company is focusing on its main products, Windows and Office, to shift to internet-based development.

Microsoft has created Windows Azure, an operating system designed to allow companies to operate Windows applications and store files and data with the use of its data centers. Azure also guarantees services that developers can employ to set up user identities, control workflows, synchronize data, and carry out other tasks as they create software programs on Microsoft's online computing platform.

Another addition to Microsoft new line of services is a browser-based Office suite. The technology enables users to read and edit documents online, and pool resources utilizing web, mobile, and client versions of Office.

Most bussinesses today are are starting to venture on cloud computing; hence, creating a stiff competition among developers getting both startups and big software makers to build applications that run on their clouds.
