Micron to Cut Jobs, Slash Memory-Chip Manufacturing
Micron Technology has announced plans to cut production of memory chips and trim down its workforce by 15 percent, The worlwide economic crisis is reported to be the reason for such move.Micron has been experiencing an oversupply of NAND Flash memory due to lower demand brought by dropping prices. The memory chip is used in several electronic products, as well as the Apple iPod. Micron will be close down its plant at Boise, Idaho, which in turn would chop its production of IMFT's NAND flash at about 15 percent.
Subsequent to the production cut, Micron will be retrenching around 15 percent of its 19,000 employees which will extend over the next two years. The company''s Boise facility will take most of the job cuts.
