Green Technology Still Focused in Reducing Cost
According to research firm Forrester, UK businesses that are promotimg green IT are still prioritizing cost savings.Forrester's survey found 86 percent of IT execs are looking into bolstering green technology. Around 49 percent of these directors said energy consumption is the biggest factor while 40 percent said maximizing the life span of IT assets is their main concern.
Only 25 percent of the respondents said their company focuses on CSR goals in their green IT plan. Among the most widely used green IT schemes are server virtualization and storage consolidation. Furthermore, 90 percent of those polled try practicing desktop energy consumption.
Over 66 percent are enforcing computer power management, and another 49 percent are implementing the use of thin clients.
Forrester's report suggested that companies should not over-do their cost savings practices.
"Overzealous greening of the datacentre and desktop environments can put operations at risk if it compromises infrastructure performance or availability, " the report's authors said.
