UK Ranks Bottom in Europe E-Waste Recycling

Based on a survey carried out by Dell, the UK is at the bottom of the list of countries who reprocess electronic hardware. The research revealed 13 percent of UK consumers don't practice recycling electrical goods.

Dell's survey further showed that most of consumers across the UK do not fully understand how to recycle old technology. Another surprising result is how the UK fared in general awareness stages of legislation. UK manufacturers hardly offer hardware takeback projects.

The survey also concluded that the UK was behind by two years in terms of implementaion of WEEE or  Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment  Directive.

Jean Cox-Kearns, recycling and takeback manager at Dell Europe said, "The UK has always been behind on this issue and the WEEE legislation in the UK is still finding its feet."

Another 50 percent of those polled said they are recycling everything that needs to be recycled. In Scotland and London, majority of consumers are more concerned about the overtone of inappropriate technology disposal. About four percent of respondents in every region claim they frequently recycle electronics than other kinds of waste.
