Ubuntu Linux For Desktops To Be Released

Ubuntu Linux designed for desktops is slated for release this week. The latest version, 8.10, will add a range of usability features including an enhanced 3G wireless support.

Another addition to its features will be the "guest" capability which enables users to lend their machine without interrupting their existing programs. The operating system can be installed in USB hard drives and use it on different computers. Its multimedia content from BBC is also incorporated by which users are able to take advantage of high-quality streamed videos without any cost. This is done through the the built-in Totem Movie Player and Rhythmbox applications.

Ubuntu is a free operating system based on Debian GNU/Linux. It has been rated as the most popular Linux distribution for the desktop.  It is sponsored by UK based company Canonical Ltd. By keeping Ubuntu free and open, Canonical is able to use the knowledge and skills of outside developers eager to contribute rather than doing all the progress within the organization.
