Mozilla Retains Alpha Tag in Thunderbird
Mozilla Messaging Inc has opted to rename a forthcoming beta of Thunderbird 3.0 as a third alpha build.According to Dan Mosedale, a former Firefox programmer, Mozilla will be naming the version Thunderbird 3.0 Alpha 3 instead of Beta 1. One of the reasons cited for such move is the fear for possible negative reviews. Mosedale said, Calling something a beta is likely to trigger a bunch of extra press attention that we're not yet in a position to deal with."
Mozilla Thunderbird is a free, open source, cross-platform e-mail and news client developed by the Mozilla Foundation. The Beta 1 version for the email client was originally slated for release last month, and Beta 2 on November. Mozilla admitted that the supposed Beta version does not meet the standards of a typical beta which prompted the company to change its name.
