Mono 2.0 Supports New Operating Systems
An open-source runtime, dubbed as MOno 2.0, is now supporting Linux, Mac OS X, and Unix on its .Net based applications.Mono 2.0 is an upgrade to ts 1.2 version which enables developers to build desktop and server applications using Microsoft-based environments and utilize them in numerous platforms. The application was originally designed for Windows. Just recently, the developers of the app decided to expand its support to other operating systems.
The new Mono version features MoMA (Mono Migration Analyzer), a tool to evaluate the readiness of Linux environments for migration of .Net applications. In addition, it supports C# 3.0 language and LINQ (Language Integrated Query) for querying of data across databases, objects, and XML content.
Mono is a project spearheaded by Novell to build an Ecma standard compliant .NET compatible set of tools, including a C# compiler and a Common Language Runtime. The Mono runtime contains a just-in-time compilation (JIT) engine for various processors. The runtime will execute a just-in-time compilation to the machine's native code which is cached as the application operates.
