Microsoft Withdraws From Anti-Trust Hearing

Microsoft has shoved off from the EU anti-trust hearing where the software company is alleged to have manipulated the browser market and have kept Internet Explorer protected from competition.

The hearing was slated on June 3-5 by the EU's Competition Commission at which point Microsoft will be granted a chance to argue its case on unfair distribution practices.

Microsoft admonished EU for the recall, claiming European court officials would not be available if a scheduling conflict exists.

Microsoft deputy counsel Dave Heiner posted in a blog, "The dates the commission selected for our hearing, June 3-5, coincide with the most important worldwide intergovernmental competition law meeting, the International Competition Network (ICN) meeting, which will take place this year in Zurich, Switzerland."

As a result, it appears that many of the most influential commission and national competition officials with the greatest interest in our case will be in Zurich and so unable to attend our hearing in Brussels."

EU's Competition Commission said Microsoft's decision to pull out from the hearing only means the company is drawing back from its request.
