Microsoft Updates Windows XP to Avert Piracy

Microsoft released a WGA (Windows Genuine Advantage) Notifications update for Windows XP Professional that features anti-piracy check.  According to the company,  Windows XP Professional has become the most pirated OS version which prompted them to create the necessary udpate.

WGA Notifications 1.8.0031.0 is now able to skip future notification of impending update on the tool. The most important change is made on its nagware. Users with pirated copies of the OS will get a plain black desktop background. This may be altered immediately. but the background goes back after every 60 minutes.  Furthermore, users will see the addition of the "persistent desktop notification" that appears over the system tray and is non-interactive.  Microsoft has also decided to  present a modified EULA (End User License Agreement) that forces user to agree to allow WGA Notifications and Validation Tool to auto-update and install themselves silently without further notice whenever new versions are released in future.
