Microsoft Teams Up with Intel, Builds Fast Windows 7 PCs
Microsoft has collaborated with chip maker Intel in designing faster and energy saving Windows 7 computers.Intel’s Westmere chips will help Windows 7 offer speedy performance when running applications. The new machines will also be energy efficient, featuring enhanced power management features.
Microsoft has segregated system tasks to make Windows 7 faster. However, the performance improvement will depend on how the applications are used. The new OS is slated to hit the shelves on October 22 of this year.
Microsoft created various kernel changes in Windows 7 to enhance power management of cores on Intel processors. An improved timer system was also designed to set cores in the chips into sleep mode while not being used.
