Software giant Microsoft plans to offer anti-malware software to consumers for free. The software, known as Microsoft Security Essentials, can be downloaded from Microsoft’s download page by Tuesday.

Strengthening its ground against software piracy, Microsoft will not be extending the product to users with fake Windows operating systems. Security Essentials is being introduced as a basic anti-virus and anti-spyware program that features one-dimensional interface and uses up a fairly small amount of memory and disk space.

Describing the software, Microsoft's anti-malware team general manager Alan Packer said, "This is security you can trust. And it's easy to get and easy to use."

Security Essentials also boasts a promising feature called Dynamic Signature Service. It is a two-way link between a PC installed with the software and Microsoft’s servers.
