Microsoft Launches New Dublin Datacentre
Microsoft has built a new datacentre located in Ireland, which costs around $500 million. The datacentre is designed to advance European sales of the firm’s hosted and cloud-based services.Microsoft’s latest venture is one of the largest construction projects in Dublin. The building was completed within one million man-hours, and was put up by 2,100 workers.
“The opening of the datacentre is a milestone in our ongoing investment in Europe and provides the critical infrastructure to support the delivery of our next generation of online services for both businesses and consumers,” Microsoft’s president of international business Jean-Philippe Courtois said.
The European Commission’s Sustainable Energy Europe Campaign tagged Microsoft’s project as compliant to environmental best practice. The firm made sure that the centre is 50 percent more energy-efficient, generating a maximum of 5.4 MWh of critical power.
