Microsoft Ends Encarta's Services
Microsoft expressed its intention to shut down online encyclopedia, Encarta. By October 31, all encarta web sites for the most part of the world will be closed down except in Japan, which will be terminated by December 31.Furthermore, Microsoft will only be distributing its Encarta Student and Encarta Premium software until the end of June. Microsoft's move was influenced by the way people search for information.
Microsoft said, "People today seek and consume information in considerably different ways than in years past. As part of Microsoft's goal to deliver the most effective and engaging resources for today's consumer, it has made the decision to exit the Encarta business."
Microsoft Enccarta is a digital online encyclopedia which consists around 62,000 articles, various images, music clips, videos, among others. It was primarily introduced in the early 90's, which later evolved as an online storage of numerous general information.
