RealNetworks' move to offer a legit DVD rip tool in the market has caused ire in Hollywood.  The new RealDVD software will allow users to copy DVDs to computers or portable hard drives without modifying the "content scrambling system" or CSS encryption which is counted in commercial DVDs.


The software will legitimately create a full copy within 10 to 40 minuts, and duplicates made in portable media devices will play on a maximum of five computers for every user.  RealDVD will definitely clutch the interest of numerous users especially now that piracy has become rife.



The forthcoming release of the software, however, is highly dissented by movie studios particularly because of content protection issues. Though the CSS encryption is designed to limit illicit copying of DVDs,  Hollywood still remains averse on RealNetworks' idea of "legit DVD ripping".
