iPhone Gets IBM Software
IBM is extending its enterprise apps to iPhone. The firm is introducing the beta version of Lotus Notes and Domino 8.5.1 software for handheld units including Apple's smartphone.The software will allow data synchronization between Lotus Domino and iPhone. It will also include Lotus Symphony version 1.3 document, spreadsheet, and presentation apps.
Kevin Cavanaugh, vice president of messaging and collaboration at IBM, explained, "Providing Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync support via the Lotus Notes Traveler software is part of IBM's pledge to provide enterprises with the choice and flexibility to select the mobile devices and carriers that best suit their needs."
"This will allow employees 'on the go' to work smarter."
IBM is also offering its XPages developer technology in Lotus Notes, a client-server and collaborative application. IBM describes the software as an "integrated desktop client option for accessing business e-mail, calendars and applications on [an] IBM Lotus Domino server."
IBM has been collecting feedback from Twitter and blog users on the new software and continually altering it to hammer out common problems and customer complaints.
