Intel Plans to Shelve i7 Shipping

Chip maker Intel announced plans to put off shipping its i7 desktop this year. The i7  940 processor is one of Intel's Nehalem microarchitecture-based chips.

The i7 is designed for upscale computers, which has a built-in memory controller and DDR3 support. It is also embedded with Intel's QuickPath Interconnect technology.

Customers who wish to purchase i7 can still do so until September 4 of this year.

Intel spokesman Nick Jacobs explained, "We have communicated our shipment plans for Core i7 940 to our customers. It is actively shipping and will ship through 2009."

Intel also plans to make a speedy progress on its 32-nanometer manufacturing. Subsequently, the process would build Clackdale, Intel's Nehalem desktop chips.
