IE Usage Keeps a Downward Trend

A new web usage data revealed the declining use of Internet Explorer compared to other browsers. IE7 made a 2 percentage points drop, while IE6 lost 0.8 percent point drop. On the other hand, IE8 managed to get good numbers, boosting its share by 2.2 percentage point.

According to Net Applications, IE6 users are now seeing the need to upgrade which make it all the more hard for Microsoft to keep the browser version afloat in an extremely competitive browser market.  The decline is widely attributed to Microsoft's offering of the browser via Automatic Updates.

IE's rivals concievably made a fortune out of the browser's losses. Firefox is seen to have boosted its share by 0.4 of a percentage point, accounting 22.5% by the end of the month. Chrome ,ade a 0.2 percentage point increase, getting a 1.4% market share.

Vince Vizzaccaro, executive vice president of marketing for Net Applications, said, "IE had such a huge market advantage, and Firefox, in a competitive environment, continues to gain share."

"We've seen some seasonal flux [to Firefox's share], but now it's just continuing to go on an upward trend."
